The Rocker - Rainn Wilson

The Rocker - Rainn Wilson

Before watching The Rocker, Bear and I had a short discussion about Rainn Wilson. Bear had not seen The Rocker yet, but he debated that Wilson is just a side-kick and is not ready to step into the shoes of the leading role. I dissagreed with him and his theory and went into the theater expecting Wilson to blow my mind, just like he does in the TV show The Office.

So how was Wilson at a leading role? I hate to say it Bear, but I was wrong. Wilson just isn’t ready to step up from being the side-kick. The Rocker had a real Dewey Cox feel to it. I believe that it felt this way because much like Wilson, John C. Reilly wasn’t quite ready for the leading role either.

As far as The Rocker goes, it was a decent film. The story is rather predictable, and is one of those films where the trailer says it all. Other than some good jokes, and some repetitive slap-stick it really didn’t have much going for it.

Ok, now it is time to pick on the cast for a while.

  1. First off is Josh Gad who played Matt Gadman, the fat keyboard player. Here is my big gripe about Gad, he has tried WAY too hard to be Jonah Hill. Give it up Gad, there is only room for one fat kid!
  2. Teddy Geiger, who plays Curtis, is a giant douche bag! What is my reasoning? He looks like a douche, acts like a douche, so therefore, he must be a douche.
  3. And finally my biggest bitch about the cast in the film, Will Arnett. I don’t know what it is about Arnett but I simply can’t stand him. I guess we can be happy that he doesn’t appear too much in The Rocker.

The Final Verdict

If you are looking for a few cheap laughs then The Rocker may fill your craving. It isn’t the best comedy I have seen this year, but it definitely isnt the worst. However, I won’t be rushing out to buy this one on DVD, sorry Rainn, better luck next time.

MovieBlips: vote it up!

  1. That’s too bad I’m a big fan of his.
He was halarious as the 2008 IFC Spirit Awards host. He took over from Sarah Silverman.
I think he can pull off a leading role but he needs to ditch his wrtiters and get new ones.

  2. I personally think that the bigger issue was his supporting cast. They absolutely sucked!

  3. Yeah, I had a feeling it would feel a lot like Dewey Cox. I think it would also have been better if it didn’t have the same old stupid jokes that have been played out, in my opinion. Maybe they should just start making movie trailers and not the actual movie because all of the funny parts are in the trailer.

  4. There were a few funny parts that weren’t in the trailer. but most that weren’t in the trailer were released on promo clips.

maybe we should just start reviewing trailers and promos. to hell witht the actual film.
