Michelle Yeoh, Vin Diesel, Mélanie Thierry - Babylon A.D.

Let me start by saying that I have never watched the Babylon A.D. series on television. Honestly, this film was the first taste I have ever seen of Babylon A.D. Why have I told you this now? Simple, I have read several bad reviews for Babylon A.D. and I suspect that many of those have come from fans of the television series. The following review is completely unbiased from the tv show.

Vin Diesel has always been one of my favorite action actors, His career seemed to really bomb after he decided to not do The Fast and the Furious sequels. That will all change though now that he is signed on to do Fast and Furious,

But enough about Diesel, ad onto the film. The film is set in the future, and the story revolves around a hired gun (Diesel) and his cargo. Taroop (Diesel) is assigned to transport the incredibly special Aurora (Mélanie Thierry). I am not going to get into the story much as I don’t want to give away too much of the plot, but I will say that it threw me for a loop. Normally Diesel’s films are very predictable, beginning to end, but Babylon A.D. is different.Every time I thought I had it figured out, something would happen and change my entire outlook. This is what I liked so much about the film. It is easy for a film to look good, and be acted out well, but it is awesome when a film has a great story to boot.

So what made this a good film, and not a great film for me? The action. The action was really good, but the way it was filmed was just way too fast. Some parts left me confused during the action scenes, simply because I couldn’t tell what was going on. I am going to blame part of this on the low quality screen at the Drive-In though.

Overall i would say Babylon A.D. is a good choice to go see this weekend. Just have an open mind going into the theater and forget everything you know about the TV series (I guess).
